DES MOINES - Sixth-ranked Cedar Rapids Kennedy's Austin Christensen had a pair of hits and two RBIs at the plate and struck out eight on the mound to lead his team to a 12-2 win over third-ranked West Des Moines Dowling in a Class 4A quarterfinal Wednesday at Principal Park.
The Cougars trailed 2-0 heading into the fifth, before outscoring the Maroons 12-0 over the game's final three innings.
Christensen allowed just two runs on six hits in his five innings of work, and relievers Ryan Dusil and Griffin Michael combined for two shutout innings, allowing just one hit.
Leadoff hitter Terrell Sykes paced the Cougars, going 3-for-5 with four RBIs.
Dowling ends its year at 32-9, while Kennedy (30-10) will face top-ranked Mason City in a semifinal at 8 p.m. Friday.

Trojan pitcher Ryan Rumpf was outstanding, going 2-for-2 with three RBIs from the plate and allowing just one run on three hits as he led fourth-ranked Iowa City West to a six-inning quarterfinal win over seventh-ranked Sioux City North in a rematch of last year's state championship game.
After North cut the Trojans' early lead to 2-1 in the top of the third, Iowa City West responded with three runs in both the third and fourth innings to widen its margin to seven, and ended the game with three more in the bottom of the sixth.
The Trojans (29-8) move on to face Mississippi Valley Conference foe Dubuque Hempstead (33-3) in a quarterfinal at 6 p.m. Friday.

Ankeny cut the deficit to three runs on Eric Rasmussen's RBI fielder's choice in the sixth, but Mason City responded with seven more runs in the seventh to put the game out of reach.
