Virgil D. Cole, 80, of rural Keosauqua died at 11:35 a.m. Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at Fort Madison Community Hospital.
Born Aug. 20, 1929, near Mount Sterling, he was the son of Sylvia Boyd Sampson. On Jan. 6, 1975, he married Joyce Story in Kahoka, Mo.
Mr. Cole farmed and owned and operated Cole Construction Co. He began operating a bulldozer at age 15. He enjoyed farming and his business.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Dean Cole of Keosauqua and Justin Cole of Bonaparte; one daughter, Jane Anderson of Birmingham; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; six brothers, Ralph Cole of Grinnell, Lloyd Cole of Santa Fe, N.M., Harold Cole of Reardan, Wash., Roy Cole of Waterloo, and LaVene Cole and Richard Cole, both of Newton; and one sister, Vicki Lane of Stockport.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, two grandchildren, his mother and one sister.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua where family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
The funeral for Mr. Cole will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pedrick Funeral home with Lee McIntosh officiating. Burial will be in Bonaparte Cemetery.
Memorials have been established for American Cancer Society and Bonaparte Cemetery.
