Glen Roberts

Mr. Glen T. Roberts, 78, of Dallas City, Illinois passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at 3:50 a.m. at his home.

He was born August 15, 1931, near Carthage, Illinois, the son of Albert and Ruth Latherow Roberts. On June 24, 1955, he married Joan E. Zern in Carthage.

Mr. Roberts was a graduate of the Dallas City High School. He worked for the Santa Fe RR, Sheaffer Pen Co., the IAAP for 15 years, and retired from G.E. in 1993 after working there for 20 years. He was a member and Elder of the First Christian Church in Dallas City where he taught High School Sunday School for 17 years. At the time of his death, he was serving as substitute Sunday School teacher for the Older Class. He was an avid sports fan, especially the St. Louis Cardinals. He enjoyed following and supporting the high school basketball program and liked to hunt ducks, geese and turkeys.

He is survived by his wife, two sons, Jeff (Leslie) Roberts of Lomax, Illinois, and Rick (Cherise) Roberts of Chicago, two daughters, Rose (Greg) Dillard of Monmouth, Illinois and Laura (John) Goudschaal of Quincy, Illinois, 10 grandchildren; one step grandson; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 1, 2010, at the First Christian Church in Dallas City with James Oliver, Will Fowler and Brent Sparrow officiating. Burial will be in the Harris Cemetery near Dallas City. Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City where the family will meet with friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Saturday. A memorial fund has been established for the Dallas City First Christian Church or the Blessing Hospice.
