Donald L. Taylor, 92, of Davenport died Sunday, July 25, 2010, at Crest Health Center in Davenport.
Born Jan. 26, 1918, in Wellman, he was the son of Albert L. and Myrtle B. Chase Taylor. On June 6, 1948, he married LaVerne S. Larson in Norway. She died Aug. 9, 2008.
Mr. Taylor retired from Motorola in Joplin, Mo., as plant manager. He previously worked at Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids and Advance Ross Electronics in Burlington where he was promoted to vice president of operations in 1967. He earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering at the University of Iowa in 1950, graduating third in his class and earning a letter playing for the Hawkeyes golf team. He served in the Navy from 1942 to 1946. He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Bettendorf where he served on several church councils. He enjoyed cheering for the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Cubs, golf, fishing, nature and traveling.
Survivors include one daughter, Marty Pearson of Davenport; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Geneva McShane of Clovis, Calif.; two nieces; and one nephew.
The private graveside funeral for Mr. Taylor will be in Rock Island National Cemetery in Rock Island, Ill.
Memorials have been established for American Heart Association and WVIK Public Radio in Rock Island.
