Dorothy Carlene Rogers, 71, of Fort Madison died at 4 p.m. Monday, March 8, 2010, at her home after a battle with cancer.
Born Aug. 18, 1938, in Quincy, Ill., she was the daughter of Alexius H. and Dorothy C. Zanger Kemner. On April 29, 1961, she married Rodney Rogers in Quincy.
Mrs. Rogers was a private secretary for John D. Sheaffer and the late Walter A. Sheaffer II for more than 25 years, and the corporate secretary for the W.A. Sheaffer Foundation. She also was the bookkeeper for the Fort Madison Country Club and Sheaffer Memorial Golf Course. She was a graduate of Notre Dame High School in Quincy.
She was a member and lay director of SS. Mary and Joseph Catholic Church in Fort Madison where she was on the finance council. She also served on the finance council at the former St. Joseph's Church and was a member of the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, crafts, tennis and golf.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Michael Rogers of West Des Moines and William Rogers of Bradenton, Fla.; one daughter, Mary Ann Ping of Batavia, Ill.; four grandchildren; two brothers, Alex B. Kemner and Philip Kemner, both of Quincy; two sisters, Lucy Groce of Virginia Beach, Va., and Rita Sandschafer of Dixon, Ill.; nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Her body has been cremated.
Friends may call from 2 to 7 p.m. Thursday at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory in Fort Madison, where the family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m.
The Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Rogers will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at SS. Mary and Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Troy Richmond as celebrant. There will be no burial at this time.
Memorials have been established for Holy Family Parish and Holy Trinity Catholic Schools.
