Top-ranked Cedar Falls NU beats Coon Rapids-Bayard by 43 points.

DES MOINES -- Tanner Cooke had 16 points to lead three Cedar Falls NU High scorers in double figures as the top-ranked Tigers rolled to a 72-29 Class 1A boys state basketball tournament quarterfinal victory over unranked Coon Rapids-Bayard Monday at Wells Fargo Arena.

Kyle Denning scored 13 and Aaron Jones added 12 points for NU High (25-1).

Jacob Esdohr scored a game-high 17 to lead the Crusaders (16-10). Tyler Boeke added six points off the bench as only four Coon Rapids players entered the scoring column.

No. 3 Rock Valley 86

Council Bluffs St. Albert 67

The even-numbered quarters were deadlocks but the third-ranked Rockets outscored the Falcons 16-7 in the first period and 25-15 in the third on the way to their Class 1A state quarterfinal win.

Nic Bakker hit 10-of-12 field-goal attempts, including 3-of-4 from beyond the 3-point arc, en route to a game-high 23 points for Rock Valley (24-2). Jordan Dykstra scored 17, Marcus Heemster had 16 points and a game-high 10 rebounds, and Nate Van Ginkel scored 11.

Andrew Brown had 16 points for St. Albert (18-5). Jake Waters added 15 points and Stephen O'Neill scored 13.

Lynnville-Sully 59

Algona Garrigan 43

The Hawks erased a 12-7 deficit heading into the second quarter with a 15-3 period to claim a Class 1A state quarterfinal win.

Corey Gifford's game-high 21 points led Lynnville-Sully (25-1). Chase Cullen scored 13.

Dana Miller had 13 points to lead the Golden Bears (18-8).

Calamus-Wheatland 50

No. 8 Ankeny Christian Academy 39

The eighth-ranked Eagles led 22-15 at halftime but shot only 7-of-29 (24-1 percent) from the floor in the second half and Cal-Wheat reversed its fortunes to pull off a Class 1A state quarterfinal upset.

The Eagles (21-5) improved from 4-of-16 field-goal shooting in the first half to 12-of-21 (57.1 percent), including 6-of-10 from 3-point range, after intermission. Ryan Powers and Drew Jacobi led the way, with 21 and 14 points, respectively, and five threes between them.

Jay Snyder scored 12 and Tim Olejniczak and Andy Harmsen had 10 points each for ACA (24-2).

CLASS 2A

Carroll Kuemper 65

No. 1 Des Moines Christian 53

The unranked Knights (16-11) used an 11-5 third-quarter spurt to break open a tight contest and stun the top-ranked and previously unbeaten Lions in a Class 2A state quarterfinal.

Carroll Kuemper's bench players outscored Des Moines Christian's subs 23-4. led by Carter Daniel's game-high 20 points -- largely on the strength of 9-of-12 field-goal shooting. Starters Cody Williams and Bryce Berg chipped in 17 and 15 points, respectively.

Branden Stubbs had 15 points, Michael Carney scored 12, and Austin Stubbs had 11 points for Des Moines Christian (24-1).

No. 5 Western Christian 53

Wapsie Valley 46

The fifth-ranked Wolfpack turned 18 Wapsie Valley turnovers into 19 points and closed out the state tournament day with a Class 2A quarterfinal win.

Bryce Groeneweg led Hull Western Christian (23-3) with 15 points. Dustin Douma, whose 3-pointer put the Wolfpack up for good at 8-5, scored 12.

Zach Schmidt's game-highs in points (17) and rebounds (11) led the Warriors (20-6). Taylor Sickels added 10 points.
