The body found earlier this week floating in the Mississippi River has been identified as a Davenport man who apparently drowned, officials with the Des Moines County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday.
Through dental records, the state Medical Examiner's Office identified the man as Kevin Mark Carstens, 48.
Lt. Clint Williams of the sheriff's office said Carstens' vehicle was found a block from the Mississippi River Bridge in Muscatine. Records showed Muscatine Police ran a check on the vehicle's license plate number July 18.
Williams said a business owner near the area where the vehicle was found told authorities it had been parked there "for a while."
Carstens' body was spotted Monday afternoon by a tug boat operator on the Iowa side of the channel across from Oquawka, Ill.
Deputies recovered the body near the Casey Barrow boat landing. Investigators said it appeared it had been in the water for two to three weeks.
The local sheriff's office is handling the investigation with the assistance from the Muscatine and Davenport Police departments. Williams said they are still investigating the circumstances of the man's death. He said, however, authorities do not suspect foul play.
