Gatens, Fuller, May named to All-Big Ten teams.

Three members of the Iowa basketball team were honored in the All-Big Ten selections released Monday.

Forward Eric May was one of five players named to the all-freshman team by the coaches. Sophomore forward Aaron Fuller and sophomore guard Matt Gatens were named to the honorable mention list by the coaches.

May has started 22 of Iowa's last 24 games, including the last 19. He was Iowa's leading defender this season, leading the Hawkeyes with 34 steals and 26 blocked shots. He averaged 9.1 points and 4.6 rebounds per game.

Fuller was Iowa's leading scorer and rebounder in Big Ten play, averaging 12.3 points and 7.6 rebounds in 18 conference starts. Overall, he averaged 9.7 points and a team-best 5.9 rebounds.

Gatens was the Hawkeyes' leading scorer, averaging 12.4 points. He led the team with 122 field goals, 58 3-pointers, and 83 made free throws.

Junior center Jarryd Cole was also honored as the team's Big Ten Sportsmanship Award honoree.

Ohio State swept the top two awards in the media voting. Evan Turner was named player of the year, while Thad Matta was named coach of the year.

Matt Painter of Purdue was named coach of the year by the coaches. Turner was their player of the year choice.

The top two all-conference teams were identical. Joining Turner on the first team were Michigan State's Kalin Lucas, Illinois' Demetri McCamey, and Purdue's Robbie Hummel and E'Twaun Moore.

The second team consisted of DeShawn Sims of Michigan, John Shurna of Northwestern, Talor Battle of Penn State, JaJuan Johnson of Purdue and Trevon Hughes of Wisconsin.

The coaches' third team was Michigan State's Draymond Green and Raymar Morgan, Manny Harris of Michigan, William Buford of Ohio State and Jason Bohannon of Wisconsin.

The media third team was Harris, Green, Buford, Bohannon and David Lighty of Ohio State.

Illinois' D.J. Richardson was the freshman of the year pick by the coaches, while Drew Crawford of Northwestern was the media choice.

Chris Kramer of Purdue was named defensive player of the year by the coaches. Green was named sixth man of the year.

Joining May on the all-freshman team were Richardson, Crawford, Christian Watford of Indiana and Kelsey Barlow of Purdue.

The all-defensive team consisted of Kramer, Johnson, Hughes, Dallas Lauderdale of Ohio State and Jeremy Nash of Northwestern.
